The event I attended was the WestPACS job and internship fair that was back on October 10th. I attended this event because of all the different employers that were there. I felt this was the most useful event because their was plenty of opportunities to make connections. Having the chance to see all kinds of different employers shifted my focus more to cybersecurity as a whole rather than staying in management information systems. I think a few of those connections will be useful for internships and hopefully a job later down the line.

This event made me think about a few things in the career I want to pursue. One of the things I consider now is job enrichment. I think it is important that I always learn more and have the potential to move up the ladder because I do not want to be stuck at the same position for life when I begin to work. The other thing that interests me the most after this event is job redesign. Personally, I prefer diversity on the job. I would like to explore different tasks to keep myself interested and challenged while working. Those are a few points that matter more to me after attending this event.

How this event relates to current business news is that it is important to make connections at events like these. Certain fields might be difficult to get in without connections. With certain companies downsizing, it is important to have an in at other companies in case you are affected by this. For example, "GM is expected to cut 15% of their salaried workers" (Lardieri). This being in the current news, hopefully those who are cut from their work have the needed connections to land another job in their field.

An article I found relatable to this event was about Warren Buffet's Three Words of Career Advice. Those three words are "invest in yourself" There is a point made in the article about communication skills. "If you can't communicate then nothing will happen" was another quote Buffet added. I agree with this because if you can't go to a job fair event and communicate how will you ever get yourself out there. The WestPACS job fair was a great way to meet employers and all you have to do is communicate with them. Communication plays a major role even before you land a job/internship.

My interviewee is a Chatham alumni who is currently employed at Merrill Lynch. They were only here for their graduate degree so they were not apart of the available clubs on campus. What I learned about good studying strategies is that it is important to make time to study. A lot of students have busy schedules and put studying to the side but it is always important to find the time to study for tests/quizzes. Company Me Mission Statement- Enjoying my path and always working hard with the future in mind. Business Environment The industry I will be competing in is the business industry. More specifically, I would like to be in the cybersecurity aspect of the business industry. To get into this field and succeed I must continue to use strategic planning . This will allow me to plan out my steps to get into this field. Cybersecurity is a field that is needed in our country and internationally. An O*Net report gives the idea of work related activities such as analyzing data, gathering info, communicating ideas to others, and so on.
